It’s been a while since publishing houses have ceased to be companies that merely published books. They had to become places for ideas, holding knowledge from the past, reflecting on the present and launching debates about future perspectives. They must help society to walk the path of knowledge and stay connected to the contemporary world.
In 1987, when Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp) founded its publishing house, the project already proclaimed these ideals. In 1996, in order to consolidate these objectives, the Unesp Publishing Foundation was created. The aim was to expand the activities through a new model of social organization, strongly connected to the profile that was originally envisioned: being more than just a publishing house.
Unesp Publishing Foundation has the goal of democratizing knowledge and being a potential aggregator like no other. It’s the main bridge between society and one of the most admirable Brazilian universities.
Through this Foundation, the academic and scientific production of Unesp can reach the population as a means of showing the extensive research carried out in the University. Unesp Publishing Foundation also promotes training activities that go beyond the university walls and amplifies their impact by making available a wide range of books by renowned thinkers and scholars, from Brazil and abroad irrestrictedly, with a huge collection of classic and contemporary literary works.
